Bio

I was born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina and raised in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia; namely, Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Portsmouth.  While in high school, I excelled athletically and received a track scholarship to Delaware State College.  While in college; I received several awards, including the "Dean's List," "Most Outstanding Freshman, 1971," "Most Outstanding College Athletes of America, 1972," "Most Improved, 1974."  I attended Officer's Candidate School in the summer 1973 and after receiving my Bachelors of Science in 1974 from Delaware State; I was commissioned an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

I spent six years in the U.S.M.C. as a Communications-Electronics officer, obtaining the rank of Captain.  In 1980, I decided to leave the corps to try the free enterprise world.  Subsequently, I spent over twenty years in sales.  After some coaching from a business acquaintance, who's a teacher, he recommended that I seek out the possibility of being a teacher because he felt the educational system needed people like me.  I started teaching in the year 2000, completing my education certification by attending Coastal Carolina Community College and University of North Carolina at Wilmington. While attending UNCW, I received two awards, "In Recognition of Academic Excellence and Minority Student Leadership," 2001 and 2002.

I am in this profession because I really care about students, especially those who are in the category of exceptional children.  I was selected "Educator of the Year, 2004-2005," by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Phi Lambda Lambda chapter.
